Purley - URC Commercial Automation Installation
The proposal outlined the installation of a URC Home Automation system, using a total of 66 data points cables and 12 aerial coax points, in a Purley property. The data points were used for a mixture of different services: Security, AV, WIFI and Utilities. With the help of DTS London, this property was transformed into a safer, smarter place to live.
Security entailed the installation of 16 x 4K Hikvision CCTV system along with a double panelled Comelit video door entry system, while the AV work entailed the distribution of 4K images. While this did apply to essentially all rooms, the 4K images connected to 8 main televisions, as well as the integration of Apple TV, Sonos sound system, YouTube, Netflix and Movie media centre, using the URC control tablet. What’s more, we also installed a Nest Lighting system.
The strategy
For the utilities in this Purley property, we integrated Nest home for heating control and also carried out a mobile receptor audit. Purley is known for having a very bad mobile phone reception, and so we fitted a mobile phone signal system which significantly improved the mobile reception in and around the premises.
Sky Q dish, Aerial and Dab were fitted and cables all installed into the central server, which is the main source for the URC control tablet, enabling seamless integration and simplifying the process to make it extremely user friendly.
In order to achieve the great results that we were able to, the infrastructure cabling (Cat6) had to be laid under the floorboards, loft spaces and joists while some were cut and chased behind walls. What’s more, a solid WiFi environment was a must, and so we chose to install 16 Ubiquiti Pro access points in key locations around the property. This enabled that all-important excellent WiFi coverage, boasting speeds of 300mb in all parts of the house. The points were all terminated in a brass plated Cat6 finish for data points and the Av HDMi distribution around the house.
To bring all of the different elements together, we had to integrate them with the URC for optimum performance and control, using Handheld URC tablets and smart devices via App. The URC tablets allows you as many profiles as you need, and each profile can simply be named after the room itself. Once the room you're in is selected, a smart list of all the facilities appear in a custom format which we design to suit each individual user.
Results
Once everything was in place, the security cameras, intercom system and AV system was commissioned and then integrated into the URC main server located in a rack- based data cabinet, along with Sky Q boxes and all other media sources. This means that in each room with only a TV, 2-4 speakers, lights and a URC tablet or smart device, our end user is able to:
In summary, our work has enabled this property owner to now control lights, AV and security in the 8 main rooms in the house. The remaining areas still access (via smart app) to all services, including great WiFi in the garden area, and can still operate and access the security facilities, lighting control and sound.
