Total Control URC Home Automation Installation & Wi-Fi Installation at A Holiday Home in Oxford
This client’s nine-bedroom property in Oxford required an upgrade to cater to his family’s lifestyle and enable them to conveniently manage all their devices in one place.
A key factor in this project was the property being vacant for most of the year. This had certain implications for how we approached the residence’s transformation into a true smart home.
The fact that the client also worked from this property while he was away, necessitated the installation of a bespoke Wi-Fi system to ensure his ability to connect to his colleagues at all times. However, he also desired that the upgrade project at the property would allow his loved ones to enjoy uninterrupted entertainment.
Essentially, the home had major problems with regard to Wi-Fi and Internet access that needed to be fixed. In addition, a high standard of security was required, bearing in mind the extended periods during the year when no one would be present.

The strategy
We decided that to fulfil the client’s combination of requirements, it was necessary to install a URC home automation system at the property. This system would be integrated with Rako lighting, Heatmizer, Ubiquiti access points, and Hikvision 4K CCTV to help keep the frequently vacant property secure.
Furthermore, we concluded that a DoorBird door entry system was required, so that the family could be alerted whenever someone wished to gain access to the property.
After conducting a risk assessment, we determined that the most sensible course of action would be to cut and chase the walls. This would allow for the cables to be buried, and the required network points to reach specified locations.
The completion of the cut and chase operation made it easier for our team to finish the rest of the installation process for this property’s security and entertainment upgrade.
Results
The final outcome was formidable, encompassing a sophisticated smart entertainment and Wi-Fi system through a fail-safe dual Internet line.
This project even included the extension of the Wi-Fi out to the gazebo. This provided a place where the family could enjoy spending time together, at the same time as maintaining access to their entertainment systems.
To help enhance the ambience in the gazebo, we incorporated Rako smart lights into the installation, as well as a TV and sound system controllable through a mobile phone or tablet computer.
The client declared themselves “delighted” with the outcome, and “really impressed” by the attitude of our team and their experience of engaging with us. They added that they “wouldn’t hesitate” to recommend our business to friends, relatives, and co-workers, explaining that the improved security had brought them “peace of mind”, the enhanced entertainment features “a happier family”, and the quicker Wi-FI “a better experience working from home”.
